Upcoming Active Police Board Member Election

The term of office for Commissioner Robert von Voigt, the current Police Department Active Employee Member of the Board of Fire and Police Pension Commissioners (Board), ends on June 30, 2010.  An election to fill the seat for the next five-year term has been scheduled for April 27, 2010.  All active, sworn employees of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), including Deferred Retirement Option Plan (DROP) enrollees, are eligible to participate. 

 

The Board normally meets on the first and third Thursdays of the month at 9 a.m.  Each meeting lasts from one to four hours.

 

Potential candidates may pick up the nominating petition forms starting on March 5, 2010, at the City Clerk Election Division, located at Piper Technical Center, 555 Ramirez Street, Space 300, Los Angeles, CA 90012.  In order to qualify for the ballot, candidates must obtain the signatures of at least 100 active, sworn employees of the LAPD.  Election ballots will be mailed to eligible voters by April 16, 2010.  To update your mailing address on file, please complete Form 138, which can be obtained from LAPD Forms on any LAPD computer.  Please return the completed form to LAPD Personnel Records Section, Police Administration Bldg (PAB), 100 W. First Street, Room 139, Los Angeles, CA  90012.

 

Members who become active within 30 days of the election may vote by first obtaining a Certificate of Eligibility to Vote from the City of Los Angeles Personnel Department.  Eligible members will present the certificate when casting their ballot at the City Clerk Election Division during the seven-day period immediately prior to the election and no later than 5:00 p.m. on the day of the election.  Questions concerning the election, including candidate requirements and calendar of deadlines, may be directed to Shafia Mir in the Administrative Services Section of the Department of Fire and Police Pensions at (213) 978-4434.
