HOW TO: Enroll in DROP

Follow these steps to enroll in DROP. Keep in mind, your decision to participate in DROP is irrevocable. (You have seven days to change your mind after you apply for DROP. After the end of the seven-day period, you cannot exit DROP without terminating employment.) Learn more about DROP.

Schedule an in-person appointment with a DROP/Retired Members Services Section representative to come in and fill out the necessary service pension forms to complete your enrollment. (You must enroll for DROP in person.)

So we may process your application in a timely fashion, schedule your appointment not more than 30 and not less than 3 days prior to your intended effective date to begin participation in DROP.

To enroll in DROP, you need:

  • Your California Driver’s License or department picture ID card,
  • Social Security numbers for your spouse and any minor children, as well as their birth dates, and
  • We request that you also submit any marriage/divorce documents if not already on file with the Department.

NOTE: The DROP effective date may not be backdated per Los Angeles Administrative Code Section 4.2101(c)(1). For example, if you were to enroll in DROP on April 20, the earliest effective date you could select would be April 21st.
