Sam Diannitto
Elected by Retired Fire Members
After 43 years of dedicated service, Commissioner Diannitto retired from the City of Los Angeles in 1997 as an Assistant Fire Chief.
Commissioner Diannitto was elected to the position of retired Fire Department representative to the Board of Fire and Police Pension Commissioners on July 1, 2000.
He was reelected in 2005 for a second term which will end June 30, 2010.
He has been a committed member of the Board for over 25 years, beginning 1972 when he was first elected by the active membership to serve a five-year term. He was also re-elected to serve four more five-year terms. His Board experience also includes serving as Vice President in 1975-1976, and as President in 1976-1977 and 1991-1992.
Mr. Diannitto has an extensive background in leadership and administration. He is currently the President of the Public Safety Employees Pension and Benefits Conference, which he founded in 1985. In addition, he served as the first Vice President of the National Conference of Public Employees' Retirement Systems (NCPERS) from 1981-1984, as President from 1984-1987, and as immediate past President and Executive Committee Member from 1987-1997. Other accomplishments include Vice President of the United Firefighters of Los Angeles City (UFLAC) from 1969-1971; and chairperson and member of the Public Employees Committee of the International Foundation of Employee Benefits Plans (IFEBP) from 1989-1992.
Mr. Diannitto is currently a member of U.S.C. Alumni Association, Fire Chief Officers Association, National Conference of Public Employees' Retirement Systems (NCPERS), International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP), and Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).
He holds a B.A. from the University of Southern California, and two certificates in money management from the Wharton School of Finance, University of Pennsylvania.
