A member’s qualified survivor(s) may be eligible for benefits. Benefits are based on:

• The qualified survivor(s), including a:
  • Spouse (the member must be married at the time of retirement and death to receive a benefit),
  • Domestic partner (as long as a Declaration of Domestic Partnership is on file with the Department or with the State),
  • Minor child(ren),
  • Dependent child(ren), and/or
  • Dependent parent(s).
• The member’s status at the time of his or her death: active, disabled or retired.
• Whether the member’s death was service-connected.
• The member’s pension tier.
